Family and Couples Therapy

Navigating a relationship with those around us can be an arduous and at times an overwhelming labor of love.   What affects one member of the family will inevitably -albeit in different ways- affect the whole family. Family and Couples therapy give you and those you love the opportunity to voice your concerns, be heard and find ways to resolve what is affecting you together.  I can help you navigate difficulties such as: relationship discord, separation, family conflict, losses and additions in the family, work and school related stressors, among other life challenges and transitions.
Interracial Couples Therapy
Interracial couples experience similar difficulties that most other couples experience, but these are nuanced and informed by the couple’s racial heritage and society’s ideas about race and power.
While race is a social construct, meaning invented in society and not scientifically based, racial categorization has served to elevate and oppress specific groups of people.  The ideas behind racial categorization and its manifestation still permeates our day to day lives. It impacts how we perceive ourselves, perceive others, and are perceived. For example, who do we think of as more deserving, find most dangerous, believe as more intelligent. No one escapes these notions. which will inevitably inform our relationship with ourselves and with our significant others.
I have been specializing in interracial couples since 2014 before most clinicians even thought it was important.  As an interracial couples therapist, I pay close attention to and explore how larger societal racial notions play a part -little or large- in the couple’s interaction and present difficulties. I help in giving voice to these dynamics, assist partners in listening to one another, and facilitate creative solutions that honor and elevate their racial differences.
Racial difference and partnering across races is never a bad thing. When couples across races come together, their relationship has the potential to become more robust.

Individual Therapy

If this is not the time to do couples or family work or if you are seeking individual services I can also help you explore and manage what is affecting you. Whether it is by navigating difficult situations and transitions in your life or negotiating your relationship with yourself and those around you, together we can find options for a better life.

Clinical Supervision

Whether you are looking for general clinical supervision or consultation, sharpening your systemic-relational skills or you suspect that your personal experiences are affecting your work, I am the supervisor for you!
In addition to my history as a faculty member of the prestigious Ackerman Institute for the Family where I taught and supervised other mental health professionals the craft of family therapy, and maintaining an active private practice in New York City, I enjoy staying current with new approaches in the field. My training is anchored in a systemic-relational approach and I am particularly interested in investigating how the self of the therapist impacts their work. I bring this expertise and interests into my supervisory work along with my passion for teaching and patience with individuals. All of this makes me your ideal supervisor whom you can trust will support you while challenging your comfort, expanding your views, and helping you take risks in your practice.
